Shellshock

Still kind of surprised by this.  It's going to get even bigger.

I have to wonder if some of these bugs were planted by the NSA.  Just seems very coincidental to me that heart bleed came out which shattered OpenSSL and now this which is probably more devastating.  How this wasn't noticed before is what baffles me.

The six plus

It's big and I love it. Maybe it's because of the reading glasses, or that I have big hands, but I don't mind the size of the phone at all.

Yeah it's probably too big for most people. Yeah, I'm pretty sure phones won't get bigger, but this is great.

Now if the nexus 6 is as big I'll be as happy as a pig in shit

Apple and AT&T

Not sure what happened here, but my the ship date on my iPhone changed from 10/13 to yesterday and now it's scheduled for delivery tomorrow.  Seems a little shady, but we'll see.

As long as I'm not being given a refurb I don't care.

Caveat emptor

So a bunch of guys at work have the new iPhone 6.  No 6+ here yet, I suppose I'll be the first, and almost all of them are complaining about the size, button placement etc...

Are you fucking kidding me?

Here's roughly how the conversation went.  Not exactly, but pretty close"

After some complaining.....

I asked "Why did you buy it then?"
He replied, "I had no choice"

Are you fucking kidding me?

"Did someone hold a gun to your head and force you to buy it?"
"Now you're arguing semantics"
"But you didn't have to buy it, you do know that there were drawings of the phone, and it's size all over the Internet that showed you the size of it"
"Did you do that?"
"Yes, I printed it out and showed my wife so she would know how big it would be"
"Then you're an idiot"

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?

"I couldn't see how big it was before I ordered it, I was due for an upgrade and didn't want to wait, I always upgrade and wanted the faster better phone.  Now I can barely use it with one hand and my wife can't use it with one hand.  It won't fit in my pants pocket."

ARE YOU REALLY FUCKING KIDDING ME?

Yes, he got up at 3am to order his phone so he would have it on the very first day...  I did not.

So, my 128gb iPhone 6+ will be here in about 3 weeks.  Yes I pre-ordered but not at 3am.  I also spent a few minutes reading about it to make sure it's what I wanted, and showed Merinda so she wouldn't think the phone was too big.  She still wants a 6+ too.

I'll let you decide for yourself who the idiot here is...

The Apple watch

I'll admit it, I'm a little bit of an Apple fanboy.  I was really looking forward to the Apple watch, and after letting it settle for a day, I'm disappointed.

I was expecting something stylish and functional, much like the Mac or iPhone, and didn't get that.  I really expected something like a Movado watch and instead got a volkswagen bus.  It's probably the most functional smart watch coming, but it's not something I would want on my wrist.  At least not from what I've seen so far.

Motorola got it.  The moto360 is hot.  I want one, but I don't want to carry an Android phone.  I want the iPhone 6 plus.

Maybe Apple Watch 2 will be better, but I doubt it.  Once apple makes its mind up that's what you get.

Here is the moto 360:

And this is the Apple Watch

It's a shame really...  Apple really missed out here.

Heartbleed...

This is a rare moment in time where I don't know what to say.  I'm still deciding whether or not I'm being paranoid because of the heartbleed bug (yes I think the NSA planted it) and how disappointed I am as a result of it.

I shouldn't feel that way but I do.

I get why governments do things like that, but sometimes it's better not to know.  Deep down I really am an optimist and believing that my government could do something like that just crushes my belief in my country, the constitution and the ideals I always believed we stood for.  I do believe that the NSA has lost it's way.  I can only imagine what the overwhelming paranoia that must be pervasive in its employees is like.   Maybe Enemy of the State was more realistic than I thought.

I've had people say this is just the beginning too...

New life for my old phone

Last year I finally bit the bullet and rooted my galaxy note.  I've had two phones for what seems like forever, I don't really mind, but the note was getting really sluggish.

So I rooted and flashed aokp on it.  I didn't see that much of a difference at the time, even though it was nice to get Jelly Bean on it.

Fast forward to now and they released KitKat for the Note.  Now I see a *huge* difference in the phone's performance.  It's not like a new phone, but it is a lot snappier.  What a shame that AT&T and Samsung have abandoned a phone that isn't even 2 years old.

I'd resisted rooting it because I view the phone as a tool and need it to work 100% of the time.  Its why I have never bothered jailbreaking the iPhone or iPad, but the Note had gotten so bad I didn't really have a choice.  I even considered paying for an early upgrade.

The tough call is whether I want to upgrade.  AT&T doesn't sell phones with unlocked bootloaders so I can't flash a new phone, and don't want to have another phone go obsolete in 15 months, so I'll probably have to get the Nexus.  I've gotten pretty used to having a mostly vanilla android phone and going back to touch-wiz, or whatever samsung or HTC sticks on their phones, and being forced to keep it that way for 2 years is a deal breaker.

Creepy Google....

Even though I don't opt-out, google still creeps me out sometimes.  Don't get me wrong, I like that google checks the traffic and gives me a real time to leave for the doctor etc... it's still a little eerie that google knows where I am, where I go and keeps all of it stored forever.

1984 was just 30 years too late...
